Unbeaten light heavyweight Marcus Browne (23-0, 16 KOs) from Staten Island, N.Y. claimed the WBA interim and WBC silver titles with a twelve round unanimous decision over former two-division world champion Badou Jack (22-2-3, 13 KOs) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Jack was hindered by a massive gash in his forehead caused by a headbutt. It was all Browne as Jack was standing in front getting hit. Judges official scores 117-110, 116-111, 119-108.
BROWNE:
“He was a really tough competitor. I had to stick to the game plan. He thought he was going to take me to deep water and drown me, but I was in shape. Teddy Atlas, you think you have the best light heavyweight? (Oleksandr) Gvozdyk, let’s go. “I just used my athletic ability and did what I do best, and that’s box the hell out of people. “He couldn’t find me before that (head butt). He couldn’t find me. I was just too sharp, too slick, too anything. He was coming with his head all night. He kept coming with his head. “Like I said, I’m from Staten Island. Teddy (Atlas) is from Staten Island. He thinks he has the best light heavyweight? Gary Stark has the best light heavyweight. Lets go.”
