GAMBOA PUTS THE HURT ON BELTRAN,JR AND THE COMEBACK OF JUANMA LOPEZ A SUCCESS

By Damon “Latinbox” Gonzalez/Ringside

Miami, Florida – Lightweight Yuriorkis “El Ciclon”Gamboa (29-2, 17 KO’s) from Miami, Florida. In the main event in-front of a sold out Miami-Dade Expo scores a ten round unanimous decision over former world Champion Miguel “Barreterito” Beltran Jr (33-7, 22 KO’s) from Los Mochis, Mexico.

I give it to Beltran, Jr. for putting forth a great effort last night taking the fight to the very slick puncher Gamboa.

It was good to see Gamboa takes step back picks his spots to land good solid shots all night long, Beltran, Jr. a very tough gain fighter showed spirit and will, but Gamboa setting up the counter shots makes Beltran, Jr. pay as he continued to lean in and get popped. The judges official scores 99-90, 98-91, 100-89.

In the co-main event Super Featherweight “Juanma” Juan Manuel Lopez (36-6, 32 KO’s) from Caguas, Puerto Rico. made his return to the ring scoring a well fought unanimous decision win over tough “Piedrita” Christian Ruben Mino (19-3, 17 KO’s) from Argentina. Clearly Lopez was the bigger man in the fight Mino opens up with right hands that were not connecting, Lopez getting a bit frustrated with Mino’s tactics in the fight a lot of grabbing and holding, López showed nice work by dropping Mino with hard shots sending him down to the canvas in rounds three, four and six. Mino being desperate tried to make it a dog fight but it was all López tonight. The official scores were 97-88, 96-89 (2x).

Welterweight Harold Calderon (18-0, 11 KO’s) from Miami, Florida. finishes off Emiliano Martin Garcia (16-3, 13 KO’s) from Argentina at 1:11 seconds of round seven by TKO victory.

Calderon picking his spots throughout the fight, Garcia pretty much just standing there getting hit all night, I would-have liked to see Calderon use his range better and fight tall popping the jab, Garcia too predictable, Calderon performed well.

Cuban Super Bantamweight

Jorge De Jesus Romero (12-0, 9 KO) from Miami, FL. scores a 8 round unanimous decision victory over gain fighter Jason Vera (5-6, 3 KO’s) from Miami, FL.

Ramero showing early on he wasn’t afraid of going inside mixing it up early against Vera.

Ramero didn’t have to look for Vera he was right in Ramero’s alley who was fighting at a faster pace just a step ahead of Vera, you didn’t have to look for him Ramero making it a meaningful fight he was definitely sharper with his punches and nice timed hooks to the body. Vera showed effort but it was Ramero dictating the fight.

After eight rounds all three judges scores were 80-72 all for Ramero.

In the opening bout of the night Welterwceight Sonny Dueversonne (4-0-2, 2 KO’s) from Avon Park,FL. scores a six round

unanimous decision over

Jesus Almonte (4-1, 1 KO’s) judges official scores

58-56, 59-55 (2x)
