“Papito” Vazquez Spoils Mijares Party In Mexico with a KO win

Mexico- Former world champion Wilfredo ‘Papito’ Vazquez scored a third round knockout win over  three times former champion, Cristian ‘Diamante’ Mijares, in a real shocker!

And in addition to relaunching his own career, Vazquez ended, via a heavy punctuation mark,  the Mexican veteran’s career spanning twenty four years, in the professional ranks. It was the main event by Promotions del Pueblo, Cancun Boxing and Boxing Time Promotions at the Centenario Auditorium of Gómez Palacio, Durango.

For all the World, it was meant to be a fanfare adiós for Cristian in front of his fans, but Wilfredo, who’d been training sixteen weeks for this opportunity, had other ideas.

In the third round, he drove Cristian to a corner and landed an unremitting combination/cascade of punches.  Cristian slightly lowered his guard and a tremendous hook to his face, badly broke his nose, mashing and  gashing it, stunned him and pitched him to the canvas, where he was counted out.

Up to this point, Cristian had won ten bouts in a row.  The last time Cristian was KO’d was by Vic Darchinyan in 2008, during a super flyweight unification championship.

With a sore nose but a broad smile, Cristian hugged Wilfedo, sportingly assuring him that nothing would dent their post fight party!  Setting aside this unepected wrinkle leading to a blemish, Cristian leaves a magnificent and memorable professional mark with a record of 59-9-2 with 27 knockouts, while Wilfredo improves his record to 25-7-1 and 20 knockouts.
