WBC CITES EDUCATION AND AWARENESS AS POWERFUL WEAPONS AGAINST DOPING / EDUCACIÓN Y CONCIENCIA; ARMAS PODEROSAS CONTRA EL DOPING
At the fifty fifth World Boxing Council Convention, in Baku, Azerbaijan, President Mauricio Sulaiman stresses that knowledge is power in the vital ongoing struggle against doping.
Explaining that the main priority is understanding and grasping the main issues of this gripping issue, he urged: “We need to reach out to as many gyms and people in them, so we can teach them what needs to happen, what’s dangerous and what is a problem, so education and awareness is a key.”
The curse of illegal doping, has not gained the foothold or exerted a stranglehold to taint and blight, as it’s wrought havoc in other sports. Mauricio stated: “Boxing is traditionally a clean sport. Boxers understand that doing something can hurt their opponent. So I like to believe that most doping cases are unintentional, but we have to continue striving towards safe boxing.
“Every case is different. It has to do with the substance, and how it got into the body. We can work on the teaching of fighters and having testing protocols.
“You don’t play boxing. Anything that happens, can be dangerous to the health, integrity and safety of the fighter.”
