Mark Reyes, Jr. Returns March 17 In Tampa

Mark Reyes, Jr.

@officialmarkreyesjr “I started boxing at 6 years old. I know for most people, that’s a very young age. My father introduced the sport of boxing to me due to my hyperactive behavior.

As I grew older, I developed a deeper love for the sport. I began fighting as an amateur boxer, at 12 years old. I won three National titles in the United States earning me the Gold medal in the National Junior Olympics and the crown at 145 lbs. After that I decided to fight in Puerto Rico and won two National titles.
My dream was to become an Olympian for 2016 but it was shut down due to an injury I sustained while training. In February 2016, my father and I both agreed it was in my best interest to turn Pro. I had my Pro debut March 4, 2016 and won in the first round by K.O with 1:24s left in the 1st round.”

Top boxing promotion companies have big appetite for latest Rio 2016 Olympic talents

By Lester Silva

It was no surprise that many top boxing promotion companies were carefully watching the Rio 2016 Olympics in hope of finding the next boxing superstar. Floyd Mayweather, President of Mayweather Promotions himself was in attendance at the Rio 2016 Olympics in search and to support the next generation of boxers. This week alone Mayweather Promotions announced that 19-year-old boxer, Richardson Hitchins who represented his parent’s country of Haiti in the Rio 2016 Olympics has signed with Mayweather Promotions. Richardson, a two-time Golden Gloves champion will debut his professional career on the undercard of the highly anticipated Thurman vs. Garcia blockbuster card on “Showtime Championship Boxing on CBS presented by Premier Boxing Champions” in primetime on Saturday, March 4. When we asked Richardson what it meant to him to be part of the Mayweather team, he said; “It feels good; I grew up looking up to Floyd and he treats me well. Floyd has the experience and has honest intentions for me”. “I am excited to be making my pro debut in New York. I showed what I can do in the in the Olympics, so it’s just another day for me.” said Richardson when asked what are his expectations when he steps into the ring on March 4 in New York.

Another 2016 Olympian making a debut in March is two-time Irish Olympic boxer Michael “Mick” Conlan, who gained notoriety for unleashing a tirade after he felt he was robbed by the judges during the Rio 2016 Olympics. Conlan who signed with Top Rank, Inc. last year is set to make his debut on St. Patrick Day, Friday, March 17 on the ‘Solo Boxeo’ Series which will air live on UniMas at 11 pm ET / PT. “It means the world to me to be a part of Top Rank boxing. In my eyes they are the biggest and best promotional team in boxing and it’s an honor to be a part of that. For the team to have my pro debut on St Patrick’s Day in Madison Square Garden is unbelievable! I’m hugely grateful for the opportunity and I’m excited to see the journey that I and Top Rank Boxing are going to take all the way to the top!” said Michael when asked what it means for him to be a part of the Top Rank team.
Mayweather Promotions and Top Rank, Inc. are not alone in signing and launching the career of many young Olympians this year. The Los Angeles-based promotional company Ringstar Sports also announced this week that Mexican Olympian Lindolfo Delgado will begin his professional career with Ringstar. “I’m very proud to welcome a young man with the talent and heart of Lindolfo Delgado to our roster at Ringstar,” said Richard Schaefer, Chairman and CEO of Ringstar Sports. “We’re excited to add a second Mexican Olympian and fifth 2016 Olympian to the Ringstar family. Lindolfo Delgado is the latest addition to the growing stable of Ringstar Olympians fighters that already includes: 2016 U.S. Olympian Carlos Balderas, 2016 Super Heavyweight Gold Medalist Tony Yoka, 2016 Bronze Medalist Misael Rodriguez, and 2016 Lithuanian Olympian Eimantas Stanionis. “For me it is an honor to be in this company, which I believe is best for my boxing career and I think we are both seeking the same success. I think it was the best decision for my career.” said Lindolfo to us today when asked what it meant for him to become part of Ringstar Sports.
American promotion companies were not the only ones adding exciting prospects to their stable of fighters. The European based promotion company, Matchroom Boxing signed a deal will Olympian Joe Cordina from Welsh. Cordina is another Olympian who participated in the Rio 2016 Olympics which will become a professional and addition to the paid ranks. “After the games I knew that I was going to turn pro and I’m itching to get going,” said Cordina, whose debut date will be announced soon.

As legend like Pacquio, Mayweather, Hopinks retire this year we hope that many of these young professionals take their place in the sport of boxing.
