Philadelphia, PA. – North Philly junior middleweight Marcel Rivers stopped in a few days ago to sign a contract for his pro debut Friday evening, Dec. 2, at the 2300 Arena in South Philly. Rivers, 29, takes on another first-timer in Tony Kim, 26, of New York, over four rounds. Rivers graduated from Martin Luther King High School where he was captain of the school football team as a senior, playing running back and defensive back. The father of 4-year-old Cameron, Rivers is a foreman with Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW). He had 16 amateur fights and likes to play chess when he has the time. Shelestyuk (15-0, 9 KOs), the 2012 Olympic Games Bronze Medalist for Ukraine, was victorious by the scores of 96-93 twice and 95-94. Despite a gutsy, gritty performance, Herrera (15-4-1, 8 KOs), of Chicago, Ill., had a three-fight winning streak end. There were no knockdowns.
