Mexican Juan Jose “Piquet” Martinez, was announced to fight on June 11 against unbeaten boricua Felix Verdejo, on a big card to be heald in New York City with the WBO lightweight latino belt on the line.
A fight between two of the best lightweight warriors today, will be given on the frame of the “Great Puerto Rican Parade”, a main Tradition for Boricuas fighter’s, equivalent in importance to the Mexican Independence Day, when the most representative boxing idols go into action.
Martinez, who is in the stage of strength in his physical preparation, said: “This is the opportunity I had hoped throughout my career, the serious work and sacrifice have paid off, I’m where everyone wants to be and just a few come, now I will keep working with the same passion and discipline to reach a world title fight in the near future”, he said. And added: “Verdejo is an undefeated fighter who has a good reputation and has shown great things, I do not trust in the poor performance he does on the last fight, we all have bad nights and my intention is to bring that title to Mexico because Mexican fighters can win anywhere in the world”, said the 29-year old fighter from Ecatepec, México.
