Sunday night at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona, 47-year-old former world champion Roy Jones Jr. (62-9, 45 KOs) will have the most unusual boxing match in his career. The future Hall of Famer will step into the ring against a boxing fan on an event that can be seen on pay-per-view.
Fans were asked to submit up to a 90-second video explaining why they’re worthy of stepping into the ring with Roy. Over 1500 entries were received. The winner was 33-year-old Vyron Phillips of St. Paul, Minnesota. Phillips is listed as having an amateur boxing record of 6-1 and he is currently an MMA fighter. If he defeats Jones, he’ll earn $100,000.
