#GonzalezGuerfi. Tonight A pair of 122-pound contenders are set to scrap as Premier Boxing Champions returns to Fox Sports 1 for another edition of Toe-to-Toe Tuesdays as Mexico and France do battle on neutral ground deep in the heart of Texas.
Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. was primed to pull off a major upset in El Paso, Texas, in July when he put Irish stalwart Carl Frampton on the mat twice in the first round.
But Frampton rallied in the second half of the fight, despite absorbing tons of punishment from the hard-hitting Gonzalez, to pull off the win.
Despite being tagged with his second career loss in his U.S. debut, Gonzalez (22-2-2, 15 KOs) earned a mountain of respect from both Frampton and the boxing world at large.
Guerfi battled through a tough two-year stretch in which he lost three of six fights and had one ruled a no decision, but he bounced back with wins in his last two fights, including a first-round knockout of Oscar Trujillo a year ago.
After winning a unanimous decision over Arnoldo Solano in June, Guerfi will try to push Gonzalez’s losing streak to two fights and elevate his status in the 122-pound division.
