Strawweight Janiel Rivera (13-2-2, 7 KOs) outpointed Israel Vazquez (9-3-2, 6 KOs) to win a one-sided unanimous decision and become the WBC silver beltholder on Saturday night at the Hector Sola Bezares Coliseum in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The fight began with a lot of action. Israel, the son of Puerto Rican legend Wilfredo Vazquez, tried to land bombs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the best performance of Rivera’s career. “I felt great tonight. I really did my fight and he couldn’t do anything. I am very proud and happy to be the WBC silver champion, now my goal is to become the world champion,” said a very emotional Rivera afterward.
