Super Welterweight Miguel Cotto in front of 13,096 in his 6th fight at Madison Square Garden fell short with a victory only for World Champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout to come into a hostile NYC and go toe to toe fighting his heart out against Miguel Cotto In witch who have seemed to me distracted in his campaign to go after Trout WBA title.
Cotto jumped in early to try to make a fight coming forward and slugging with the taller fighter Trout who seemly went from fighting tall to his early success to fight Cotto’s fight.
Rt:1 Cotto taking a lot of strieght jabs to Trout who starts off fighting tall witch was smart early in the fight. Trout landed a nice left hook that backs up Cotto who jumped right back in the attack Trout. Rd:2 Trout fighting very slick seemly Cotto continues to be aggressive and get inside but Trout just fighting him off with the jab.
Rd:3 Cotto standing in front of Trout trying to get in big shots, I like what Cotto appears to be doing stepping closer pressuring Trout who shooting the lead right to the body of Cotto.
Rd:4 Trout opens up with an attack on Cotto who continues to score combinations inside both fighters trade shots in the center of the ring, Cotto I’m not sure if he trying to Land the money punch on Trout but appears Trout getting a little less alert on the inside by taking shots flush.
Rt:5 interesting so Cotto getting closer to Trout who appears to be fighting Cotto fight right now, Cotto smothering Trout with good shots catches Trout with a hard left Trout retaliates and hits Cotto low takes the warning from the referee. Cotto cruses in the round.
Rd:6 Cotto came over the top with a great right hand that sends Trout back, Trout steps in Cotto hits him with nice combination in the inside, Trout showing his will in the round but went away from the jab that was working so effectively, Trout would come back whack Cotto with a nice hard hook to the head then grab him.
Rd: 7 Still a very technical fight Trout making things happen coming over the top on Cotto who appears to be taking more shots in this round, Trout very effective in the round went back to fighting tall Cotto showing signs of ware ness.
Rd:8 Trout landing really big shots on Cotto, Trying to make a statement in the fight he getting off first.
Rd:9 Cotto wrestling with Trout who landed a low blow on Cotto who’s punches have slowed down a bit but continues to come forward, trout working harder landing quicker shots right now Cotto needs to put on the pressure to win this fight.
Rd:10 Trout stepping on the gas making his statement in the fight by picking his shots the slower Cotto got hit with a big shot followed up with a body shot, Cotto came back with a sense of urgency attack on Trout.
Rd:11 Trout fighting a very relaxed and smart fight landing great shots on Cotto who just not doing enough to make a case, showing signs of being worn down Cotto still comes forward attacking Trout.
Rd:12 Trout more effective from fighting at distance Cotto jumping in trying to land Trout cutting the ring just trying to close out the round to me it appears that Cotto Just didn’t have enough at the stretch, Trout really needs to work on constantly dropping that right hand after he throws exchanges Cotto defiantly took advantage of it through the fight with nice hooks upstairs I looked for the Cotto body assault that just was not there un the fight Referee Charlie Fitch worked like he was doing a PAL fight It was not at the level it should have been for this match up.
Austin Trout holds on to his title wins the unanimous decision 117-111, 117-111 & 119-109 on judges score cards I hade it 114-114 a draw on press row.
